Love in LA, Steve Martin style"There's someone out there for everyone - even if you need a pickaxe, a compass, and night goggles to find them."
My favourite Steve Martin film along with 'The Three Amigoes'. Everything about this film is so cool, despite some of it being really silly from the acting, the actors, the story to the sound track. One of my favourite Enya tracks 'On Your Shore' played during the cute garden scene when Harris and Trudi walk hand in hand together through this garden and suddenly they become two children. It's very cute :)
Harris: When I really analyze it, Trudi wasn't for me anyway. The only good times we had were having sex and laying in bed watching TV.
Ariel: I hate to tell you this, Harris, but if you can find somebody you can have sex with and lie in bed and watch TV, you've really got something.

I was watching another favourite movie last week called Hannibal. Although Hannibal is about a psycho cannible murderer it is also in affect a romance between Lectur and Agent Starling which I find deeply moving if not disturbing. It's a really fucked up film that gets you to feel sympathy for Hannibal Lectur, but the man portrays some kind of morallity and class in his behaviour which you can't help but admire. He's charming in his twisted evil way and the film sort of portrays him as perhaps being some evolved form of human. Able to strike fear and humility in the most vicious of beasts such as the huge meat-eatting Wild Boars. The man is portrayed as some kind of higher species of human misunderstood by today's society.
Agent Starling sort of stands for the good and morality of the society she lives in. She doesn't really fit in with her peers in the FBI because she's a do-gooder. She has alot of pride. Something which Hannibal is drawn to but if she showed even the slightest change of heart he'd eat her without a moments hesitation because it would dissapoint what he finds most attractive about her. I'm not quite sure what hidden meaning this signifies... is it saying that love is cruel? That people love what we are but as soon as they're allowed to affect us they don't love us any more?
"Forget for this moment the smog and the cars and the restaurant and the skating and remember only this. A kiss may not be the truth, but it is what we wish were true." Harris, LA Story
On Your Shore - Enya
Strange how my heart beats
To find myself upon your shore.
Strange how I still feel
My loss of comfort gone before.
Cool waves wash over
And drift away with dreams of youth
So time is stolen
I cannot hold you long enough
And so this is where I should be now
Days and nights falling by
Days and nights falling by me.
I know of a dream I should be holding
Days and nights falling by
Days and nights falling by me.
Soft blue horizons
Reach far into my childhood days
As you are rising
To bring me my forgotten ways
Strange how I falter
To find I'm standing in deep water
Strange how my heart beats
To find I'm standing on your shore
